Former Camp Swift
Formerly Used Defense Site
The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will host a public meeting to provide an update on the upcoming removal action at the former Camp Swift Munitions Response Sites 5, 6, and 8. The presentation will be in an open house format.
The former Camp Swift is a Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) property. These sites encompass properties across the U.S. that were originally used as military installations or training areas that were transferred out of the Department of Defense's (DoD) control before 1986 and returned to public and private use.
The DoD is removing material potentially presenting an explosive hazard (MPPEH) present in these FUDS properties. A remedial investigation was conducted at the former Camp Swift in 2015 to identify and recover potential explosive hazards from the area. The remedial investigation documented munitions debris (MD) and the potential for munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) at Munitions Response Sites 5,6, and 8. The results of the remedial investigation are indicative of the types of potential MEC that may still be present prompting the need for the upcoming removal action. If MEC hazards are identified during the removal action in MRS 5, 6, and 8, they will be removed from the property.
USACE will hold the meeting on January 7, 2026, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Bastrop Convention Center located at 1408 B Chestnut, Bastrop, TX 78602.
If you are unable to attend in person, there will be a virtual meeting option accessible via Microsoft Teams.
